Our Approach
What We Write
Our academy curates poems from China’s rich literary history to use in calligraphy practice, with a focus on the Tang and Song dynasties where art and culture flourished. Our selected poems often revolve around, and celebrate the essence and beauty of each season.
How We Write
We specialise in the exciting and versatile Semi-Cursive Script, also known as XingShu (⾏书) or running script, which originated from the Han Dynasty in China. This calligraphic style is characterised by its flowing and somewhat connected brushwork, falling between Regular Script (Kai Shu 楷书) and Cursive Script (Cao Shu 草书) in terms of formality and legibility. Other main scripts in Chinese Calligraphy.

Our Unique Value Propositions
Rooted in Values, Guided by Tradition
At Chong Zheng Academy, we believe calligraphy is more than just technique — it’s a path to calm, connection, and self-expression.
What sets us apart are four guiding values that shape every class we offer, making your learning journey meaningful, personal, and true to the spirit of this timeless art.

Why Choose Us ?
**Time-Honoured Techniques**: Our sessions offer more than just technical instruction – you’ll explore the beauty, structure, and philosophy behind each stroke. Students gain not just skills, but also a deeper appreciation for the cultural and historical essence of this ancient art.
**Personalised and Self-Paced Learning**: We recognise that every learner brings their own rhythm, goals, and background. Whether you’re a complete beginner or returning to your practice, our classes are paced to support your growth. Individual guidance and thoughtful feedback help you build confidence, develop your own style, and truly enjoy the learning journey. No experience in Chinese or calligraphy is required — just bring your curiosity.
**Guilded by Passionate Teacher**: Your classes are led by Wan Chung — an organisational psychologist by training and profession, and calligrapher with over 20 years of experience. He brings both artistic discipline and human warmth into the studio, creating a space where you are supported and inspired to express yourself through brush and ink
**A Living Heritage**: Founded by Wan Chung’s great-grandfather in the late Qing and early Republican era as a 书院 – a place where literature and art meet – Chong Zheng Academy continues this rich legacy. Our classes honour both the literary spirit and artistic practice of Chinese calligraphy, passing down tradition through brush, poetry, and thoughtful reflection.
