This regular Chinese Calligraphy Practice Lessons are designed for learners who already have some basic familiarity with brush handling and simple Chinese character strokes.
- Students who have completed our Calligraphy for Beginners Course or have equivalent prior exposure.
- Young students and adults who wish to continue exploring Chinese writing and culture.
- Intermediate learners who want to refine their technique, especially in semi-cursive script, and deepen their understanding of this timeless art.
Course Duration and Instructor
Our Regular Practice Class is an ongoing weekly class with flexible monthly, for 3-month or 5-month enrolment—perfect for those who want continuity without long-term commitment.
- Weekly 2-hour sessions are designed for steady progress and guided practice.
- Learn and practise as part of a community of fellow learners—sharing inspiration, exchanging ideas, and supporting one another on the path of the brush.
- If you need to take an extended break (3 weeks or more), you can pause and re-join the following month.
- Missed a class? You can attend a make-up session (eg. 1pm before the regular 2–4pm class).
- The first 3 months focus on building a strong foundation in brushwork and appreciation, while ongoing sessions provide continuous practice, exploration of different styles, and deeper mastery over time.
- Personalised guidance– Coach Wan tailors his coaching style to match each student’s personality and preferred way of learning, ensuring you progress at your own pace and feel supported throughout your journey.
Our Practice Lessons for Chinese Calligraphy are led by Lai Wan Chung—an organisational psychologist by training and profession, and a calligrapher with over 20 years of experience. He combines artistic discipline with human warmth, creating a welcoming space where you’ll feel supported to explore, learn, and express yourself through brush and ink.
Course Content
Over a 2-hour practice session each week for about 12 weeks or first 3 months, students build strong foundation through :
Learning Together – Join a warm, supportive community; share inspiration and progress at your own pace (with make-up classes available if you miss a session).
Learning from the Masters – Explore stories, styles, and works of legendary calligraphers for insight and inspiration.
Refining Technique – Strengthen brush control, character structure, and composition by writing full poems and phrases.
Exploring Different Styles – Progress from regular script to semi-cursive and cursive for more expressive, flowing writing.
Progressing from Blessings to Poetry – Write auspicious characters, idioms, and carefully selected classical poems that enrich both technique and meaning.
Showcasing Your Talent – Create a polished artwork on rice paper, complete with layout design and traditional seal finishing.
